Cure CJD Parliamentary Reception

A short intro needed here – Aims of the event and a bit about CJD and the campaign

The reception brought together individuals and families who have experienced CJD first-hand, Cure CJD’s supporters, policy experts and parliamentarians to demonstrate their unified commitment to supporting the MRC Prion Unit’s world-leading research and to finally curing CJD and prion diseases.

Purpose of the event

People living at risk of CJD and families who have lost loved ones to the disease came together to Westminster from across the country to draw attention to the impact of CJD and the fragile opportunity we now have for a cure.
Baroness Stedman-Scott paid tribute to her friend Baroness Newlove, who served as the Victims Commissioner for England and Wales for many years. Baroness Newlove passed away in November of last year after being diagnosed with CJD.
The Rt Hon Stuart Andrew MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, gave the keynote address, celebrating the world-leading British research that might finally bring about a cure to this terrible disease.
The reception was a crucial step in building the cross-party and cross-industry coalition needed to raise £10 million for PRN100’s clinical trials, the next step in developing a cure.
